Developed by First Constable Mitchell BULL with the ongoing support of the Kyabram Blue Light Committee and a partnership with Kyabram P-12 College, Campaspe Youth Partnerships, CCLEN, the Alcohol & Drug Foundation and Blue Light Victoria.

KyFit currently runs a one hour session each Thursday from 4pm. The program has been wildly popular in the community with an ever growing interest from young people to participate. There are 30 participant’s actively involved from years 5 through 11 at school.

Initially in Term 3, 2019 the sessions were solely at the gym, but with ongoing feedback and input from the participants they indicated they would like more variety to further challenge themselves, as term 4 came along with the warmer weather and the opening of the outdoor pool, some pool sessions were worked into the term plan with a qualified swim instructor coming on board. Now into Term 1, 2020, the gym sessions and pool sessions have been accompanied with some sessions at the school hall with some ex-army personal coming along, bringing with them their army personality and mentality to push the participants even further, whilst adding some diversity to the program.

The army session were going to go either way with the group, however the feedback was overwhelming positive with every one of the 26 participant’s at the session wanting additional sessions planned.

“The boys came home boasting how great tonight’s session was. They thought it was awesome to learn drill they use in the army” – Mother of two male (12 & 13) participant’s

“So much harder than a PT session, in a good way” – 14 year old male

Each session is run by an independent trainer from the community and has at least one, if not more, local police officer taking part besides the young people, sometimes with CFA or Ambulance officers become involved too beside other community mentors.
