Blue Light Victoria (BLV) is seeking a dedicated and experienced finance professional to join our Board as Treasurer for up to 12 months. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing, purpose-driven organisation that empowers young people and strengthens communities across Victoria.

BLV delivers youth engagement programs across Victoria, working closely with police, emergency services, schools, and community organisations, helping young people build resilience, develop life skills, and stay connected.  

About the role

As Treasurer, you will play a key role in financial oversight, risk management, and strategic planning, ensuring BLV’s long-term sustainability and impact. This is a voluntary position, requiring active participation and attendance at bi-monthly Board meetings and membership in the Governance, Risk and Finance Sub-Committee 

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking candidates with expertise in finance, risk management, and fundraising, who are passionate about supporting young people. Prior governance experience and an understanding of not-for-profit financial management will be highly regarded. Graduates of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course are encouraged to apply.

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people?

Blue Light Victoria is seeking police and emergency services members in the Bendigo, La Trobe and Melton areas to act as role models/mentors for local disengaged or vulnerable young people aged 10-17 years in our 1:1 Positive Pathways program.  

About the role

The volunteers will support at-risk young people up to 3 hours per week (1.5 hours per session twice a week) for four weeks to make a significant impact in their lives.  

We are seeking volunteers who are open-minded, calm, supportive and reliable. You have experience or an interest in supporting disengaged young people and understand the barriers and issues young people face. You enjoy providing guidance and support to people and making a positive impact in someone’s life. 

About the program

Our program focuses on providing support for those young people who are disengaged from family, school or community groups, or coming to the attention of police and/or the justice system.  

The program provides opportunities for young people to form positive and empowering mentor/mentee relationships with adult role models from emergency services organisations, such as SES, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria or Fire Rescue Victoria within their local community, through a gym focussed program with a fitness instructor. 

The relationship between the young person and the community role model/mentor is critical to positive program outcomes. 

As a volunteer role model/mentor you would be making a significant impact to a young person’s life by:

  • Improving their physical health and fitness.
  • Improving their confidence and self-esteem.
  • Improving their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Increasing their ability to make healthy and safe decisions.
  • Improving their discipline and enhance life skills.
  • Increasing their engagement with schooling or employment.
  • Increasing their social engagement.
  • Increasing their connection to community.
  • Supporting trust in relationships between adults and young people.

Location: Bendigo, La Trobe and Melton areas

Commitment: 3 hours per week over two days for a minimum of 6 months. We are flexible with what fits your schedule.

Training: Volunteers are required to undertake an onboarding process in addition to completing a Blue Light Victoria training session prior to commencement. The training is designed to better understand the role and its requirements while connecting with staff and other volunteer role models/mentors.

Reimbursement: This is an unpaid role

Requirements: National Police Check unless exempt. Working with Children Check or VIT unless exempt.

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people?

Blue Light Victoria is always on the lookout for enthusiastic and dynamic individuals to join our team as Casual Facilitators. This role involves delivering a variety of engaging programs to school students across Victoria, aimed at promoting positive behaviour and fostering a supportive community environment.

About the role

Becoming a casual facilitator is a fantastic opportunity for those who are dedicated to the personal growth of young people, acting as ambassadors of BLV. You will have the opportunity to create a positive impact in the community and influence the lives of young people. With a competitive casual hourly rate, shifts are generally 3 hours, from 7 – 10am or during the school day. Training and professional development is provided.

You will

  • Facilitate and deliver a range of programs designed for school students.
  • Engage students in activities that promote social skills, community involvement, and personal development.
  • Prepare session materials and ensure all activities are conducted safely and effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff and Blue Light Victoria team members to tailor programs to specific group needs.

About you

  • You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire small groups of young people.
  • Be proactive and self-motivated with a strong commitment to youth development.
  • Have experience in teaching, youth work, or a similar facilitator role.
  • Hold a Current Victorian Working with Children Check and must pass a national police check conducted by BLV.
