Positive Pathways Program
1:1 Positive Pathways is a program where dedicated police and emergency services role models actively support an at-risk young person.
The program is designed for vulnerable young people aged 10-17 who are considered at risk of involvement in or have already had contact with the youth justice system. The young person may also have a disability or mental health issue that is adversely affecting their behaviour, or be disengaged from school and exhibiting problematic behaviours. 1:1 Positive Pathways kickstarts a positive trajectory in the young person’s life.
A specialist BLV youth worker carefully matches each young person with a positive role model. Together they take part in eight 1:1 fitness sessions with a qualified personal trainer, building positive relationships, confidence and healthier habits. To keep the momentum going, participants also receive 10 group gym sessions after the initial program completion.
The 1:1 Positive Pathways is currently available in Bendigo, Latrobe and Brimbank-Melton. Referrals can be made by the young person themselves, youth workers, parents and carers, police, the Children’s Court, schools and community organisations working with young people.
